Barncroft School take the welfare and safeguarding of all our children extremely seriously.
‘The welfare of the child is paramount’ (The Children’s Act 1989).
Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 (Section 157 for Independent schools) places a statutory responsibility on the governing body to have policies and procedures in place that safeguard and promote the welfare of children who are pupils in the school.
Our first and foremost priority is to keep your child safe and healthy; there are safeguarding notices around our school to remind staff and visitors of our policies and practices with the key message that ‘Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, every day’.

Keeping Safe in the Curriculum
Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is a curriculum area which develops the knowledge, skills and attributes all pupils need in order to keep healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.
At Barncroft, we use PSHE education to ensure our child have the skills, attributes and knowledge to stay safe but also to develop skills that can be applied to some of the most pressing issues facing children today. These range from mental health to understanding the importance of staying safe online, healthy and safe relationships, making sense of media messages and challenging extreme views.
Our PSHE program of study is developed using the Coram Education SCARF resources
